Hummingbird Hill Homestead

Welcome to Hummingbird Hill Homestead! We are a permaculture homestead in the making in Central Georgia, hardiness zone 8a.  We are homesteading on 4 acres a few miles from a small town.  After being away from this property since 2011, we moved back in 2021 and started again from scratch.

After many months of settling in, reclaiming our overgrown garden area, and establishing some basic infrastructure, we are excited to see what 2022 holds.

We’ve been “homesteading” on different scales since we married in 2006.  We had our first garden in 2007 and have gardened at multiple locations since then.

In 2017, I was diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease (along with multiple co-infections), Ehlers Danlos Syndrome & Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) from extended toxic mold exposure, and everything GOT REAL, real fast!

Since my diagnosis, our lives have been dedicated to seeking the Lord’s guidance and using our skills and resources to heal and provide a more sustainable way of life for ourselves.  We pray to pass on what we have learned to our children, grandchildren, and others within our scope of influence that want to experience the healing and joy we have found in this lifestyle.

Homesteading with health challenges presents a unique set of obstacles. With faith, study, and perseverance we believe that we can create a homestead that meets our needs and the needs of others within the confines of those challenges. We want to encourage others, including those with health challenges, that a more sustainable and self-sufficient life is absolutely possible!
